We are delighted to welcome you to The Downes!
The Downes is situated in Hayle behind the grounds of St Michaels Hospital. With views of Hayle Estuary, West Cornwall Golf Club as well as having it's own 7 acres of registered Grade II listed gardens consisting of wooded area, an orchard and kitchen garden.
The building itself is also a Grade II listed historic building which was utilised as the Nun's convent in the early 1900s. The Downes was acquired by the current owner in 2005.
In 2010 it was opened as a residential care home. in 2018, work began on the chapel to convert this into 14 more bedrooms.
The Downes is now registered for 28 bedrooms all with en-suite facilities. We are registered to have residents over 65 years old. We care for people with a variety of conditions including:
Harvest Festival 2019
Harvest Festival took place this week. It was a big success and enjoyed by all. The Home would like to thank Dianne, who took the service and Viv, who played her accordion. Also a big thank you to Wendy and Mary who organised it all and made the decorations. Thank you for all the donations that we received. The generosity that we received was overwhelming. All donations we will taken to Hayle Foodbank on Saturday.
we are now looking ahead to our next event - Halloween.
Our annual Halloween Party was held on 31st October 2019 and was enjoyed by all. Staff and Residents dressed up as Witches, Dracula, Ghouls and Ghosts. Even a Nun made an appearance.
There was pumpkin carving, cake making, lots dancing and sweet eating.
It was lovely to see everyone get into the spirit of Halloween!

Our 28 bed home has the following facilities:
a large communal lounge
a small homely lounge
a library area
a large kitchen
a large dining room
a modern vertical lift
24/7 staff with waking night staff and on-call mangers
full time activities co-ordinators
mini van with disability access also a 6 seater disability vehicle
7 acres of gardens, maintained full time.
We have 2 vehicles to able to take residents on trips out, shopping trips, doctors/hospital appointments etc.
We have an external hairdresser, chiropodist and optician that come in the home regularly but we are able to accommodate residents' wishes.
