The Downes takes great pride in all its employees and provides the highest levels of training, so that we can ensure that everyone who chooses to live within our “community” at The Downes has the ability to continue their “hopes and aspirations” into later life.

90% of our care staff have or are working towards their NVQ/ Diplomas in Health and Social Care. There is a staff team of 37 covering day and night duties, ensuring continuity of care. The staff includes The Manager, Deputy Manager, Care Manager, Senior Carers, Healthcare Assistants and Team Leaders’ Lead Housekeeper and Housekeepers, Cooks, Maintenance and Gardeners

All staff receive a training induction, Care Certificate, Dementia Training,

Equality & Diversity, Mental Capacity, Safeguarding Adults, Deprivation of Liberty. Fire Safety training, Moving & Handling, Health & Safety and Infection Control.

Staff do have the opportunity to undertake Diploma level 2 & 3 in Health & Social Care and other specified training to assist them in their continuing professional development. Our staff have a wide range of experience and qualifications to ensure that the needs of all Residents are met to the highest of standards.

Registered Manager - Natalie Hudson

 

Natalie came to The Downes Residential Home as the registered manager in June 2018 to oversee the homes newly renovated extension in the old chapel. Natalie has worked within the care sector for many years. She has worked within two of Cornwall’s largest Care organisations in both residential and nursing services. She has an ILM 5 in Leadership and management, NVQ 2&3 Health and Social Care, dementia levels 1, 2 & 3 and The A1 Assessors Award. In addition, Natalie has extensive knowledge and skills working with Mental Health, Dementia and Learning disabilities.

Deputy Manager - Peter Thomas

Peter joined the team at The Downes as Deputy manager in November 2018. He has worked within the care sector for many years in the Penwith and Kerrier areas. Peter has experience in residential homes, Dementia and nursing care services. His qualifications include level's 2 & 3 in Health and Social Care as well as a level 2 Dementia care. He also is currently our train the trainer in Moving and Handling.

Care Manager - Hannah Jenkin

Hannah joined The Downes as our Care Manager in July 2018, she has experience of working in both nursing and residential homes across Cornwall. Hannah is currently our in house trainer, Medication and care plan Auditor and over sees the daily running of the staff and residents. She has a B.Ed. Hons Degree, NVQ 2 & 3 Health and Social Care and Assessors Care Certificate.
